It may come as no surprise to anyone who knows me, or to anyone who simply looks at the last published article on this site, that I do not do this often.

It’s been a wild couple of years, and I am excited to share a couple of updates about me and my projects.

First things first, NEW BOOK ALERT!

I have just released my sixth novel, “Christmas at The Old Mill.” It may not be obvious, but this is a Christmas book. I’m so excited to share it, since it came about very quickly and I was hoping to have it out in time for the holidays, which it looks like I have just managed to do! The Old Mill is not like my other books, no mysteries, no floating cities, or futuristic death parties. Just a family trying to reconnect and process grief during a season of joy. This book revolves around the perspectives of three characters—thirteen-year-old Noah, his mom Charlotte and his nana Dot. It was a challenge I wanted to take on, writing from different perspectives, and I have to say it was a lot of fun, though I’ll admit it was difficult for my brain at times. I feel so grateful to have done it because I really think it adds to the story. I hope you feel the same. Oh, and for those of you who may not love books, I am excited to say that this will be the first novel that I have released as an Audiobook—narrated by my partner, Hilary Adams. More on this to come!

I’m going to jump back now because I have failed to keep you up to date thus far. But, if you will, join me in travelling back to June of 2024, when I finally released Firefly, book two in the Ash and Sun Trilogy. I was so thrilled to share this book, not just because it is something I am ridiculously proud of, but also because it is one step closer to my goal of completing the Ash and Sun trilogy. Ash and Sun was the first novel I ever published, and I have been working toward finishing the series ever since. I personally love the world that Jens occupies. It is the brainchild of a young man who, at home and isolated during the pandemic, was trying to imagine what the world could look like in hundreds of years. Needless to say, there are many differences, though, as Hilary and I discussed the other day, a lot of similarities. After all, we have robots cutting our grass, we’re inching ever closer to the Jetsons, and some of that is scary, while other parts are thrilling. This series, I hope, is more exhilarating than anything. Though it may be different from our world, I hope not too different in that we are always human, and to be human is an exciting and challenging experience, no matter when we are born. I’m grateful to have completed this book and hope that book three, The Doctor, will bereleased in early 2026.

Fast forward a bit and ignore the gaps in writing—I had some adventures in the Kitchen, which I will be excited to write about later— and get to Fall of 2025. Again, I’m not great at sharing things, since my focus has been on the writing side and not so good at the sharing bits. But I’m continuously working on this, I promise! With that in mind, I have finally released the awaited book two of the Limestone Manor series titles, Murder at Winkleberry Farm. It was so incredible to get to build another story around these characters. I’m also thrilled to see the success of book one. People have really been resonating with the characters, which makes me happy cause it hopefully means people are as excited to find out what happens to Cliff and the gang, as I am to write it. This book steps away from St. Marys a little and explores farm life around the community. Growing up in a small rural community, there is no shortage of farms and farm culture, and I hope I was able to give it some justice. I have always admired the work and perseverance of farmers—it’s tireless and essential work. I hope it will come as no surprise that this is a series I will continue. I absolutely love these characters, and I have so many ideas about them and where they might go. So I hope you will be patient with me, and I promise there will be more to come!

I’m going to leave it all there, it’s been a busy year, and I didn’t even get the chance to talk about my cooking experiences—but I will. I also have some significant changes, hopefully with the website and how I sell my books. If I can organize my time well enough, 2026 will be a great year of change and, of course, some new books.

As always, thank you for reading!

P.s. At the time of writing this I will be doing a book launch and signing on November 29th, 2025 at The Flour Mill, in St. Marys, ON. Books will be available for purchase by Betty’s Bookshelf. If you’re in the area please stop in and say hello!

Hello All!

I have some exciting news to announce. On November 18th I will be releasing my third novel “The Limestone Manor”. It is a Cozy Mystery that I hope to turn into an anthology of sorts. It follows retired police detective Clifford Shaw who after years of living on his own in Toronto returns to the small town he swears he would never go back too.

This one is very close to me as it takes place in my hometown of St. Marys ON. This will also be the first time I have an official book launch. I am very thankful to my friends at Betty’s Bookshelf in St. Marys who have graciously offered to host me for the day. If you live in southern Ontario and are looking for something to do on Saturday, November 18th feel free to stop by. I’ll be there all day promoting my new book and signing copies for anyone who might want it!

Description:

When retired police detective Clifford Shaw hesitantly steps off the train in his former hometown of St. Marys, Ontario, the last thing he expects to greet him is a murder. The only thing worse than being inadvertently roped into the investigation is the surprise he receives when the too-good-to-be-true room rental from his lifelong friend Hans has one massive catch. It’s in a shared house with six other retirees. Already hesitant about returning to the town he swore he never would, Cliff has one week to figure out if he wants to refuse the room or give his old town one last chance. All this while he helps unravel a mystery to save ‘The Town Worth Living In’.

This is a fun read that I was hoping to get out just in time for winter. If you’re anything like me this time of year screams sitting next to a fire and getting some reading in. I hope this can be one of those books that can make your list this season.

Without further ado here is the Cover Art which was created by my friend and the wonderfully talented Colleen MacIsaac.

Enjoy and thank you for reading!

Jonny

Dear Friends,

Let me start by saying that I’m not great at creating social content but this is something I plan on working on as I progress further down this path and I truly appreciate anyone that is taking the time to read this post!

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read my debut novel Ash and Sun, it means a lot to me that people have been enjoying it. That said, I have some things to announce, this past year has been busy and I finally get to announce some new projects I’ve been working on.

Currently, I’m in the final stages of editing for my next novel Atlantis. It is a speculative fiction thriller about JFT2 (Joint Task Force 2) operative, Clive Davie, who is sent to a mysterious, technologically advanced, floating city in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean built by a billionaire genius Grace Alice. His task is to discover what is happening in this city and if the rumours of a mysterious weapon, code-named Blue Crest, can topple the world as we know it. To make matters worse, he only has twenty-eight days to figure it out. As his time dwindles and Clive discovers more about the technological and societal advances of Atlantis, he is forced to consider whether he is on the right side, or if he is simply being lured into this new world’s false sense of security.

I am also thrilled to share with you the cover art for this project created by the brilliant and talented R. Whittwham who never ceases to amaze me with her creative prowess.

This book will be shortly followed up by a project that’s inspired by the time I recently spent back home in my hometown of St. Marys, ON. I thought it would be fun to write something that shared a little history of the town. Despite being set in 2012, this book is 100% fiction, all of the people in the story are fictional and although some of the locations are loosely based on some places in town, nothing is named directly.

The Limestone Manor is a cozy mystery about retired Toronto police detective Cliff Shaw as he reluctantly returns to his hometown of St. Marys, ON, after a fifty-year hiatus. Brought back under a very misleading promise of independence and cheap accommodations, Cliff steps off the train into a murder investigation. As old habits die hard, his keen observations and years of experience only succeed in dragging him further into a case and a town he immediately regrets returning to. Despite himself, Cliff discovers he has one week to save a town he’d long ago turned his back on, and possibly even worse, see if he wants to forgo his life of solitude to live instead with five other octogenarians who seem to have a knack for solving murders.

I look forward to sharing this book soon!

Lastly, I have finished early drafts of two more books and some of you may be excited to hear one of those books is Part 2 of the Ash and Sun series titled Firefly. The other is a Young Adult novel, temporarily titled Celestial Academy, a series I’ve been thinking about for over eight years. So I’m excited about that! With these completed, I’m planning to get started on Book 3 of the Ash and Sun trilogy with a tentative plan to release these books throughout 2024.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. I look forward to updating you again soon! Please, keep your eyes peeled for Atlantis and The Limestone Manor coming into your news feed soon!

Happy reading,

Jonny Thompson

P.s. I’ll try to be better at updates.
